This is big enough for a pretty large dog, and definitely plenty of room for cats or smaller dogs.It's thicker than a couple of other cooling mats I've had and works as a crate pad as well. The surface feels nice and soft.I tried using this over the back of my chair to see how cool it kept me. It did pretty well overall and didn't start to lose its cooling sensation for a couple of hours.
